+ 1 for the custom ear plugs. I wear them all the time. The wind noise the is biggest killer of hearing. I'd like to be able to hear when I'm old. The custom ear plugs can also accept some headphones if you like that option.

Try these: https://earplugsonline.com/

They are beeswax and cotton that you press into the outer part of your ear, not into the ear canal. I have been using these for 4 or 5 years now for on the bike, shooting, etc. They are like making your own custom ear plug each time. They are reusable - I usually get several months out of a pair unless I drop one in the dirt. I always carry several pairs as backup.

I have used lots of different foam plugs, and they work to reduce noise, but anything in my ear canal for very long hurts.

There is a foamie ear plug for smaller ear canals usually marketed for children. I use high definition ear plugs. They are a silicone type plug with a NRR of 15db vs the 28db of foamies. https://www.etymotic.com/consumer/he...on/er20hd.html

Check out e-bay for ear plugs. I purchased one's that are a 2 part soft stuff that you mix together then shove it in you're ear for about 10 minutes. It takes the exact shape of you're ear completely and I'm here to tell ya they work great and so comfortable you don't even notice it.
When done pull them out and put away in the provided pouch until you need them again. I use them now for everything that is noisy and did away with ear muffs I always used cutting wood, mowing, grinding.

Thanks guys for your response, great information here!

I will start with the least costly and progressively go up but I've already ordered the one suggested by cowboydoc at https://earplugsonline.com/. I watched the short promo YouTube and it looked like a good place to start.

BTW - one reply asked if I rolled the foamie down to about 1/8"...and yes, I have tried that with no luck.

Yeah, these look like a great product. I'm not seeing anything with pricing so usually that means: it's expensive!
