I've got a 2012 Street Glide, I've read where there’s a lot of guys that have used their Stock clutch cable and brake line with 12” bars by rerouting. For me brake line was simple because it had enough slack, the problem is with clutch cable, cut all zip ties took cable off lever and I’ve tried 3 different ways of rerouting cable with no luck! I think I’ll have to get a extended cable maybe a +6”! Any suggestions or if someone has used stock cable let me know how you rerouted clutch cable.
It was many years, I re routed outside the fairing which was not supposed to work. all you can do is try it, then get extended if it does not work.
take apart at clutch lever. route it, tur bars to left and measure how much short, if any
Bite the bullet & get a new cable, otherwise you'll be slipping during tight turns (trust me). I did a +4 on my 2009 w/10" bars so +6 is pretty much on the mark, but you could call a ventor to verify (e.g. Burly, LA Choppers, HCC, etc...).
Ok, Ladies and Gentlemen! I bit the bullet and ordered a +6" clutch cable, I really wanted to reroute to save money but, I decided it was worth the money to get a longer clutch cable than have a catastrophic mishap riding bike. Suppose to be here Friday! Now the question is, which way to route it? I get mixed reviews when I see someone on you tube routing their clutch cable. I've seen some cables coming up in between the frame and in front of eng guard and others I've seen the cable going in between the frame and behind the eng guard on the left side. Also once I route the cable, does it go between the front forks or on the left side of the left fork? It's been 2 weeks since I pulled the clutch cable from the fairing and yes I should've took pictures but it is what it is.
Buying the new clutch cable was the right move. Up to 2013 models a 10" bar is as high as you can go and retain stock clutch cable and brake line and the clutch cable is pretty much at its limit then.
I'm thinking I will be very pleased with the new cable, at least the brake like had enough slack. Just got the plain ol' black vinyl outer cover like the stock, simple! Hopefully I can get stuff installed and back together this weekend, plus I got a new air cleaner to install too!
