Default Intermintant no-start

I have 2014 Ultra Limited, ( I love it!) that I bought used from a dealer. It was a one owner, very clean, dealer maintained bike. I have an intermittent problem that I was wondering if you have heard of before . Sometimes when I go to start it after turning the key switch on the fork to on and then flipping the kill switch by the throttle I get no fuel pump buzz and no starter action. I have tried changing the transmitter battery, turning the switches on and off and the only thing that gets the bike to start is to honk the horn. Then the bike will start however the security and ABS lights stay on . Even if you turn the bike off right away it will restart but the lights will stay on. After I ride the bike for about half an hour or so and turn it off and restart it the light are off and things are back to normal. My dealer's service manager talked with his techs and they had not heard of this before and their suggestion is to bring it by and see if any codes have be set, something I will do on next service, but was just wondering if anyone has come across this before. I was thinking that it might be a bad ground and that honking the horn is getting current to complete the circuit so that when the starter switch is used the computer has an easier time completing the ground. I don't have access to a wiring diagram for the bike (yet) so I'm not sure if those circuits share any ground points . Any help from anyone would be helpful.

I agree with the dealer/techs - start with checking for DTC codes. I would also check your battery connections end to end as well as for condition and overall battery health.

Stinkpit, Welcome to the Forum, your going to have to explain your name I have a 14 Limited and like you just love the bike.
like mmesa said check for DTC's https://dgcustomcycle.com/tech/harle...es-04-present/

run1fsr has a good question, did anyone change handle bars?

The Security light stays on if you have a current DTC. The ABS light stays on if the ECU detects a problem, which may disable the ABS or when the speedometer detects a loss of communication with the ECU.
If your bike wasn't sensing your Fob the headlight won't come on when you turn the ignition to on. The Odometer display will ask you to enter your PIN, (check your owners manual if you haven't done this yet), and the light comes on when the PIN is accepted.

Our bikes have a CAN, Controller Area Network, communication system. The bikes Modules transfer data through the CAN system. When you press the horn button it sends a signal to the BCM and the BCM powers the Horn.
Once you pull the codes, write them down, then post them and maybe it's something you can check

Bill
