So I'm wondering if there's such a thing as a "code" thrown on a pre-04? Searching turned up the great thread on diagnosing trouble codes but after printing out the 5 or 6 page doc I discover that they only apply to post '04.
After a couple hundred mile run yesterday I noticed the red key lit up on the speedo and kept watching it. It went out at some point but hadn't noticed exactly when in the trip. So I thought that I'd just see what I could find by running the code thing - but noooo, can't do it on mine!
How does one diagnose such things and is there such a thing as throwing a code and retrieving same on my '03 FLTRI?
(Gotta get out of here to work but will be checking in now and then) Have a good safe day guys and girls
On my pre-'04 Dyna I have to use a jumper wire in the diagnostic plug. Then the turn signals flash to indicate any codes. However, if I remember correctly, the red key light on the speedo is for something else. Usually indicates a burnt bulb somewhere. Maybe check your blinker bulbs?
My 02 flashed the red key. I reset the alarm and that fixed it.
I had taken my battery out for the winter, I think that is what caused it.
If you plan on keeping the bike, get a electrical troubleshooting manual. I got mine from board tracker harley.
Thanks guys for your replies. (I have been preoccupied with work and then got a call from wife that her father is close to death so I've been on the road to in-laws.)
I'll take a look at the link and read other replies as the evening goes on....
