I know there are 2 different Upgraded Fork Spring Kits, the Drop In and the Performance Spring kit. Now I know the Drop in you just jack front of bike up, loosen the pinch bolt, take the Fork cap off, take out old stock springs and put the Drop in kit in then put fork cap back on and on the way you go. Now the Performance spring kit, why do you have to drop the forks on certain model bikes to put the performance kit in the forks? Now the fork spring kits I'm talking about isn't the ones that is the monotube spring kit.

I know they changed the forks on the Rushmore and newer bikes. But on 2013 and older there is no way to change the springs or even remove and reinstall the caps while the forks are in place. I really can’t see it happening on any touring bike with a fairing.

I know I have a 2012 Street Glide and if I take the ignition out then the what I call the control panel I can get to my Fork caps. Also, Wrench it, Ride it has a video how to change fork oil in a 2012 Street Glide.

correct...as I have a 12 also. I did remove the forks to install the progressive lowering kit but when I changed the fork oil to a heavier weight I just removed the caps.
while I haven't looked into the drop in kitchen I gather it can be installed with the forks mounted...at least on the 12.

Hey Memphisharley! That's what I ask the CDC guys and Progressive guys, didn't get a answer, why do we 2012 guys have to take the forks off to put in the performance spring kit, but we don't have to take the forks off just putting in the drop in kit, just take caps off and take all old springs out then drop in the spring set then put cap on and we don't have to take the forks off to change fork oil either. I guess seeing I really not doing anything at work I'm going to do research.

iirc...drop in kit removes the long main spring and uses a spacer for preload so no need to remove the forks..progressive kit uses shorter main spring and another short spring on the rod dampner so you need to remove the forks to do the install. check the diagram in the manual and the diagram for the drop in springs and the progressive kit.

Yes you can remove the oil cap but the big cap that holds the spring in is under the top triple clamp so there is no way to remove or add springs without pulling the forks

FWIW; I put in Progressive monoshocks in the front end and couldn't be happier.
No more "nose dive."

Money well spent.

Changed out the rear at the same time to the 940's the predecessors of the 944's.

Big difference !!

i will research later but I don't think this is correct for the "drop in" springs.

I just watched the Progressive video. Drop in springs only apply to Non-touring bikes. Touring bikes have to have the forks removed. But with drop in springs you only change the spring. You don't have to completely disassemble the fork. I think I would do a cartridge like the Mono-tubes if you have it that far apart. That way you get better valving and you never have to rebuild your forks again. Even though they are stiffer than I expected I like my Mono-tubes. A little better ride and no more brake dive.
