I had Wild 1 578 bars installed on my 14 FLHTK. Now the heated grips get warm but not hot. Using a temp gun they do not get more than 78 degrees. Do not know if the bar change has anything thing to do with it. Have not tried running the heated grips since last winter. At that time they would burn your hands at the third setting; any suggestions?
I swapped bars to 10 LA Choppers and had no issues with my stock grips. They would, like yours, burn my hands at 3. I switched out the stock rubber ones last winter to the slipstream version. I like those much better for my big hands, and they are just as hot as the stock ones.
It would seem that yours are wired correctly, if they are getting warm at all. I would think your setting switch is going bad perhaps ?b
I have a 2009 Electra Glide Classic with stock heated grips that don't work. I would appreciate any suggestions on what to replace them with. I think this is in line with the OP's question, so I don't think I'm hijacking the thread. Thanks.
I have the stock heated grips on my '11 limited. No issues in the two seasons I've had it, and they survived a tip over onto the throttle side (can't say as much for the fairing paint or the brake lever).
When I bought it I thought I'd never use them. Now I ride well into the fall with my more comfortable summer gloves on. Rarely turn the heaters up past 2 or 3.
Thanks everyone for your responses. My concern was long term reliability. But it seems from what most of you are saying, the grips are working and lasting for a number of years. Very helpful information - thanks again!!
I had them installed when I got my 2014 Street Glide, controller failed after 6 months, replaced on warranty.
I had heated grips on 2 other Harley's, never had a problem on either one, 2 out of 3 ain't that bad.
It can gets cold in Spring, Fall, & Winter, here in Northern Nevada. I don't ride without heated grips.

I agree, I checked all the external connections, under the outer fairing and behind the bars they are good. The heat is fluctuating. Goes up to around 98 degrees, but no father.
My new Ultra Limited came with them. Not much use recently in San Diego. But, we’re heading on a trip and I’ll be glad to have them on a couple of low 40s mornings.
