Hi,
whilst riding today I lost the ability to use my gear shifter to change gears.
It is “loose” and does not engage. Almost seems stripped, anyone know what could be the problem and what I could do to fix it?
The bike is a 2013 Electra Glide Ultra Limited
Are the heel/toe levers or the rod to the lever that moves the shaft at the transmission? The heel/toe levers have a bolt on each lever that as it's tightened it squeezes on to a splined shaft. The lever at the transmission shaft is also tightened up the same way, unless the splines on the shaft are stripped.
Mine did that once...bike was stuck in 5th gear all the way to dealer....heel and toe lever was loose...you gotta know what gear your in to get it in the right position that is comfortable for your foot to shift (up and down). Hopefully it's just loose...if not Good Luck

Thanks in advance
so which is it? A 2013 or 2012? Your other thread you started said you had a 2012 with a hard lever and no brakes.
On my 2013 the shifter rod had striped and had to replace it. Have to pull the primary, clutch, compensator,, inner primary off. Replace shifter rod, new o rings, gaskets and put it all back together again. This is just what happened with mine, but yours could be different. Good luck.

I had that same thing happen on my 2002 Electra Glide and on my 2007 Ultra Classic.

Out of curiosity, how does the shifter rod come out of the transmission once you got the primary, clutch, compensator and inner primary off?
Unless you have seriously abused your bike by beating on the shift levers, chances are that you stripped the shift arm. Remove the Allen bolt and inspect. Either the arm is stripped or the shift shaft but I would guess just the arm. When you go to remove it make sure to pull the Allen bolt all the way out. Easily replaced and reasonably cheap. I hope that is all that is wrong. Gets more costly and complicated from there.
