has anyone had experience with shipping your bike? there seem to be many companies that do it. I live in boston and was thinking of shipping to Denver this summer, riding around and then back,
I used this service to have a Heritage shipped from WA State to me in Vegas. First few bids were over $1k, then one came in at $500 so I agreed to it and it went off without any issues at all.

Keyboard Shippers. They specialize in shipping pianos and motorcycles.
I've used Uship twice in the past few years. First was to have a Softail Deluxe I bought shipped from Florida to Buffalo, NY. Second was just 2 months ago when I had a Street Glide I bought shipped up from Louisiana to Buffalo, NY. No issues either time. However, it can take some time to get the quotes you want or in your price range.
Also, not sure if Uship is the best option if this trip is planned a ways in advance because of the way the bidding system works. I guess you might be able to get a shipper to agree way ahead of time, but in my experience with Uship, most of them don't give very aggressive quotes if the shipment is too far down the road. Just my 2 cents and might be worth checking into.
Buddy of mine just ordered a new bike from a dealer up North, and this is who delivered the bike. Delivered to his driveway, nice setup, driver was cool and the bike had no issues. I'd recommend them from what I saw.
I've used Federal Transport (subsidiary of Allied Van Lines) a number of times for east coast to west coast shipping. No issues and bike arrived in a reasonable amount of time (8-10 days). I used Haul Bikes once, but they took around a month from pick up to destination. Things may have changed since then.
No matter who you use, if you want protection-
They must have a DOT number.
And have their underwriter fax you a Cert of insurance for the agreed value.
Don't accept a hand carried one.
Next is the option of air ride trailer which I would consider mandatory or learn to spell bernailng.
Uship providers -Uship is not a broker and the providers could be a drunk or a good guy until the crap hits the fan.
You do not have much of a recourse if they screw up if they can not provide what I listed above. ^
