Default Electrical Problem

2011 FLHTC. Keep it on battery tender everyday when I get home. Replaced a battery after 9 months on previous battery. Only had a few min today but turned on ignition for about 2 min and reading was 12.7 volts. With multimeter on dropped around 10 volts as bike started. Ran up to 2000 rpms and it was at 14.3 volts. Been starting after night shift and it groans but starts (about 33 f). Should I worry? TIA

Sounds like a bad battery. The 14.3 shows it's charging. The 12.7 shows it's charged. The groaning shows you don't have the CCA's. If you have the tender connected you can stop at a battery's plus or most any auto store. They can hook to the tender connection. And can tell if the CCA's are what they should be. Most likely you have a dead cell. If the battrey is 9 months old you would be under warranty. Good luck

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Had a Yausa for 9 months and it went bad. Replace with this battery about 3 months ago. What I’ve read bike running voltage should be btw “14.2 and 14.7”.

Why are you putting it on a battery tender every single day? Makes little to no sense to me...

12.7 V = Full charged battery. What's the CCA of the battery?

On second thought that is resting voltage, 12.7 V. You mentioned having it on a battery tender. if you can, leave the battery tender unplugged for at least 12 hrs and check the voltage. That will be resting voltage. It should be at or very close to 12.7 V.

At 33 degrees 20w50 oil is like syrup, that's a big part of your problem. No harm in plugging in the maintainer daily, if the battery doesn't need any charging it'll just turn itself off. I'm in the same habit, when I'm not riding it gets plugged in.

When ever our bikes are in the garage they are on the tenders, still have the batteries we started with.
