Default 2012 103

Were there any common engine/tranny problems with the 103's of this era. I've been looking closely at a Road King but have no experience with them or this motor.

Engine and trans should not be areas of concern, both were very reliable by this point. I've had no mechanical problems at all with my '13 Road King which is same as the '12 model.

Some 2012's had faulty voltage regulators which were replaced under a recall campaign.

the 103's were/are pretty solid motors by that point, based on the TC88 they had a lot of time to work out the mistakes.

Thanks guys.

For those who have ridden both, any opinions on the power (ie grunt), of the 103 to the M8 107/114, according to the seat of the pants dyno?

No problems with my 2011 103, or tranny.

I have ridden a 107, not a bad motor performance wise, but my 103 stage 4 IMHO is a better motor.

You can perk up a 103 for short money, a lot less than what a 107 or 114 bike is going to cost you to buy.

Plus the 14 and newer bikes are HEAVILY computer dependent, the 103's can be worked on by anyone, a lot of Indys are not dropping the $$ for the software to work on the M8's or Rushmore models.

Thanks Neggy, but was only needing stock vs. stock comparison. I do appreciate the add'tl info though.

Have TC 103 in my 012 Ultra,no problems. I'm sure the new M8 has a little more snot, but its not worth the extra money in my opinion. Reading all the issues with sumping, trannys, oil migration , I don't think they have any of these issuse resolved, I will keep my 103, don't need the aggravation just to say I have a new Harley.

nearly 50k on my 2012 103 Ultra. Did have the volt reg replaced under warranty, but at that its a $100 part and wouldn't have been too bad to fix in the garage. the VIN will tell you if it was in the failure range.

Else has run great coast to coast. I'd buy another before buying any M8. Good bike.

I have a 2012 Ultra that was 103 stock. I’ve owned the bike from new. No problems with the motor or trans.
In comparison to a stock 107 m8, the m8 definitely has more torque and power.
Last winter I installed a Zippers 107 sport kit in my bike. Much improvement. I have no problem keeping up with an m8 now.
