Default Handlebar Install Problems

I have a 2012 Ultra Classic. I'm installing 12" apes. I had everything done and the bike put back together and tested everything to find that the throttle had no response. So doing research, it seemed that the likely cause is that the throttle by wire came unplugged inside of the bars. I disassembled the bike again and pulled the wires back out of the bars and found that the connector was still intact. I decided to plug everything back in and test it without the bars. The throttle works but is slow to respond and only reves up to 3,000 rpm. Check engine light is on and when I try to read the codes on the "P" it says no rsp (no response). Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Chad

Just did the same install. As I recall there were 8 wires for the fly by wire (in two harnesses). I would ohm out each pin in both connectors to make sure you didn't break a wire when you pulled them. Sounds to me like one of those wires isn't making connectionon. I might be possible that you crossed a couple wires too. Did you use a kit or extend your own wires using bulk wire?

This happened to me on my 12’ street Glide when I did bars. Mine was in the throttle by wire connector. I extended each of my harness’ out by soldering them together, and used the Paul yaffe’s with that wicked handlebar sweep.

I believe two of the prongs were switched, and not installed correctly in the right spots. It was very tedious but I checked each one over and over again.

When checking codes make sure the handle bar kill switch is in the on position. That could be giving you the RSP . Throttle problems are pretty common after bar changes. Connectors in the handle bars are always problematic when pulling wires. Many get wires crossed when soldering and extending wires as well partially because both the yellow and black bundles contain red, black and white wires. I have given up on both of those methods and simply install the SE Twist Grip Sensor 32310-08A with the longer wires when installing taller bars. I'm not sure what year it started but most newer bikes come with the longer wires from the factory

You guys were right, I had left the green connector on the throttle by wire, the very top pin was bent up and it would hook together but was not making contact. I done away with the connector and soldered the wires together so it wouldn't pull apart while running them through the bars, made it a hell of a lot easier pulling them through too. Everything works like it should. Thank you all for your advice.

I did the same thing on my 2012 roadglide. Took it back apart and eliminated (hard wired) the green connector on the throttle wire.
Put it back together and no issues whatsoever.
