Just purchased a 15 RG and want to wipe out the inside of the throttle body( looked like some oil from the breather in it) , How do you open the butterfly without the bike running or is this not possible ? Also id there a way to tell if the Ecm has had a download done because the bike has V&H pipes and a different air cleaner and the plugs are very white ?
Thanks
The throttle plate is positioned by a small electric motor, I read a post quite a while ago that said you could damage plastic gears between the plate and motor if you forced it. Don't know if that was true but I have pushed on one of ours and it didn't move so I quit trying.
I’ve opened mine several times by hand. They have a strong spring so they don’t just push open easily. At the same time, do with the bike off so there is no power to the motor and sensors built into the actuator. If it makes you feel better you can also disconnect the electrical connector so you know it’s disconnected from the bikes power and control systems. Your not going to knock it out of calibration. The ECM probably calibrates off the closed position every time you power up the bike.
I just sent sent mine to Fuel Moto to have my throttle body ported. I can tell they did the work with the butterfly in place so they had to open it and hold it open with a tool to do the work. Here it is still off the bike.
