Default Lower fork bolt strip?

Hello all. Was installing lower black forks this evening. When I was torquing down the lower bolt in the fork it torqued down fine. When i went to double check it spun almost like it was stripping. Is that possible without the spring and cap not even on there? Or could it be it was just the internal turning? Everything else went fine. No leaks. Rides great. Am I just over thinking it? I’ve seen people use impacts and them not strip.

It's been a little while since I did that job. I do remember it being a hassle getting to the torque spec without the internals turning. I think you might be ok.

You should never use an impact to reinstall those bolts....

Yea. I did it by hand. It torqued. Then before final install I double check all torque and that’s when it spun. I can’t imagine that it’s stripped. It was just a weird feeling.

It’s fine as long as you torqued it to spec. I always clean out the fork tubes with brake parts cleaner and get everything nice and dry before reassembly. That keeps things from slipping.
