Default ABS brakes

Don't know how the rest of you feel, but to me the option of getting ABS brakes makes me want to get an '08. The biggest fear I have riding is a high speed stop and locking the brakes. Never rode a bike with ABS but I'd assume they work pretty well.

Once upon a time I saw a video clip on line of a BMW demonstrating ABS on wet pavement and it was very impressive. The police HD bikes have had an ABS option for a couple of years now; down side was it took a large space in the right side saddlebag for the equipment. Hope they have found another place for it.

Good point on where they put it. Taking up space in a saddlebag wouldn't be appealing.

As far as the ABS technology is concerned, I assume they are using the same version as is being used on the Police models. I definitely think it would take some getting used to, but probably one of the best things to come along in motorcycles for a long time.

One of the reasons (among many) that I went for a Gwing was the ABS system. I had it on my previous ride (before the RK), a 2000 BMW R1100RT, and needed the ABS a couple of times in loose gravel. I like to drag the rear brake going downhill and the ABS cut in on occassion when the brakes "wanted" to lock. I now have a partially linked system which combines the best of ABS with always having both brakes actuate proportionately depending on which brake is used. The alternative is to get plenty of panic stop practice so one doesn't instinctively stab the foot brake which can lead (and usually does) to a high side.

The ABS module will be in one of the side covers, so you don't have to worry about it taking up space in the bags.

I would love ABS, but, not at the expense of a new bike. JMHO

I just read an article that was posted on the new bikes with ABS. They said the ABS system in the 08's is not the same as what's been in the police bikes the past couple years. They also said the ABS module is under the seat.

I read it and it said right side cover, being the ecm has been moved to under the seat.

Yep thats the way I read it too. I was glad to hear it is NOT a linked system, meaning both brakes still operate independant of eachother.
