Lots of opinions on that actual personal experience on my 09 ultra has been no problem

My first one lasted 80,000. I believe the reason I got more miles is I rev the engine so it is smooth running when doing a slow turn or from a stop. I also try using the slip of the clutch to make smooth turns and take off.

Johnnypop,
What year is your bike? 80,000 miles is extraordinary.

First clue is the title of the thread.

I had an 09 ultra classic that had over 90,000 miles before I had the compensator changed.

What are some early indicators that the compensator is going bad? I got lucky and bought a super low mileage 09 FLHTC that is only now at 7K miles. It has a "stage 1" set up, but nothing more than that. I do hate that slam sound when the starter drive disengages!
