2003 Road King hard bags
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Paint, found my paint name (Sierra red) under the front fender and ordered 2 rattle cans from ColorRite, and 2 cans of clear (2000k) off Amazon. Scuffed up the color with 380 and 600 grit, then primed and used some filler to fill in the nicks, More sanding more primer and wet sanded to 600. I used a roll of plastic and a box fan on one end and a furnace filter in my outdoor canvas bike garage.... my god this is getting nuts! Made it through 2 rattle cans of color at $85 and have 1 bottom left! Ordered 2 more cans. Clear should be enough at 2 cans as this stuff is amazing, but it does orange peel bad.
No matter how well you protect from debris, lint, dirt, you will still have to wet sand then clear and buff back out.
Wet sand tomorrow night on the 2 pieces that I have ready and we will see how it goes. So far the tops look great, not so much on the 1 lower, zebra stripes pretty bad from me being a rookie so will probably respray.
If your looking for a quick easy project call a real paint shop, but keep in mind Harley paint is $200 a quart before the clear, and labor.
Overall after hardware, paint, primer, respirator, plastic, my bud laughing at me, it’s been a decent project and sure the hell not close to OEM prices. Plus I have the pride of doing it myself! ‘Merica!
