NO. Not needed. I do not pair the headset to the bike. Headset to phone, phone to boom. I accidentally wrote incorrectly in my previous post and meant to delete the part that said to pair the headset to the bike.

I've been going back and forth for a few weeks on wired vs wireless. Today I finally said screw it and installed the WHIM.

This only took about 90 minutes, but if you want to avoid it use your DIN and get the Freewire.

What the Freewire does that you can't do otherwise: allows you to speak to the bike - which you don't need to do. With your headset paired to your phone, you can call//text/GPS/whatever right through your phone - no need for the Boom system to handle that. If you do want to use the built-in Boom navigation and such, you can still do that. You can still have everything show up on your Boom (calls, texts, music, etc), you just cannot provide voice feedback.

In short, you would have complete functionality of everything you want to do. You speak to your phone with the headset, you don't speak to your Boom - and everything works great..
He is 100% correct. I ran with this type of setup for over 2 years and it worked flawlessly. NO WHIM IS NEEDED.

One thing I would add is to get a Cardo Pack Talk Bold Headset. It is leaps and bounds better than any Sena device that is out there, including the 30K. Please checkout the following video which compares the Cardo to the Sena product.

Want to get navigation to the gas station? "Siri/Google, take me to the Circle K on 12th and Main." DONE.
Want to change the music? Use the thumb controls. Or, if you want to play a specific playlist, "Siri/Google, play Led Zeppelin." DONE.
Want to call someone? "Siri/Google, call Kim." Done.

You even have control wear the sound comes from for each item (calls, music, GPS): headset only/speakers only/both.
And you're still able to hear the GPS from the bike, or are you using your phone for GPS?
