You don't say if it is the 2009 factory comp or an SE style or how many miles on the comp. Generally, the comp is very robust and won't break leaving you on the side of the road. The typical description of the factory style comp in need of change is "box of rocks" noise coming form the primary. Unless you have been living with this for a long time already, it should get you home. The concern I had was crank shaft damage from the loud band at start, you don't mention that. If you still have the factory comp, be ready to replace the rotor also. Both the Harley and Baker comps will not work with the pre-2011 rotors, it is NOT a service department trick to get more money out of you. I have the latest version of the Harley comp, but only a couple of thousand miles since installation. So far, so good.

Box of rocks noise and sometimes a nice bang on start up. I'm sure you've covered those 240 miles by now, but you're not going to hurt anything until you can get home.

Replacing my stock one with an SE one was around $700 at the dealership.

You guys are at a higher level than me. I would have responded with “...what is that you’re saying?”.

I'm with you on that. however, when I see that English isn't their native language they get a pass.

Last I checked, BC Canada’s primary language is English. Except for that ‘eh?” Crap.

Now that you are "fixed", you have time to think about what CAUSED the inner primary bearing to fail. If you are getting a loud bang when engaging the starter or lots of rattling under light load that factory comp may be causing other failures. The shock load on the primary caused by the compensator slamming into its travel limit can damage your new inner primary bearing and your starter clutch. If you have the ONE out of 1000 factory compensator that is still doing its job correctly, congratulations on your good luck.

I will be changing the comp when I get home just couldn't afford the fix on the road . As the mechanic said it has 85000 on it and it's a lot for.a side load system with the tensioner always pulling on the shaft
2200 kilometers in 5 days 3 more to go then home
Thanks
Dave
