Looking to get a backrest for my SGS and I like the Mustang backrest versus the Harley backrest. When I check them out online they say not compatible with stock seat? Is this accurate information the mount is pretty basic and I can't see why they wouldn't work on a stock seat! Has anyone put one on a stock seat?
I like my stock seat on my 14 much better seat than my 06 just want to add a fold down backrest!

thank in advance.
I think they say it's not compatible if there is no "slit" between the rider and passenger parts of the seat. That is where you would put in the backrest part of the assembly.
Does your stock SGS seat have a space in in between the rider and passenger section?
I put a Mustang seat and backrest on my 2013 Road King originally. When I swapped it out for a Harley Hammock seat later on, I kept the Mustang backrest but needed to drill 2 new holes in the mount to move it so its slot would line up with the slit in the Hammock seat. Works fine. No problems. I would expect a stock Harley seat and Mustang backrest combo to need the same mod for the same reason.

Ragtop,
I would have to agree had one before and it was just right for my back! I have been shopping seats and backrests and I'm not sold on anything I have been checking out. I do like the stock seat that came on my SGS! So I decided to just put on a backrest and wanted to be sure that a Mustang would work with my stock seat and from I have researched the Mustang will work!!
What he said! I had the HD adjustable and it is very thick. It pushed me closer to the tank and set my nads right on the portion of the seat that is on the tank. Ouch! The Mustang backrest is thinner and more adjustable also.
The mustang backrest fits perfectly with the stock Street Glide seat, no mods required. I ran one on my 2011 Street Glide for a couple of years and moved it over to my 2018 Road Glide when I got it (they have the same style seat). The cover and stitching on it even matches the stock Harley seat.
