Assuming I had to buy a bike specifically made for touring:
1st Choice: Find a good late '80s or early '90s R-80RT or R-100RT BMW and rebuild/restore it.
2nd Choice (if I had to buy Japanese): Kawasaki 1600 Nomad
OK, plenty of nice responses. In addition to my great Harley Davidson, I own a BMW R1200RT. They're on opposite ends of the scale but it is one helluva bike. I know this is a HD forum but I really think a lot of folks here would like this ride. It will cover ground quick or slow and handles like a Ferrari. I've seen those Boss Hosses. Just looking at one is an experience. Gotta be a fun ride.
I agree, no Harley tourers = no Harley Davidson. They better take good care of us baby boomers and get going with the next generation like fast!
