I'm about 1000 miles in on a new to me 2015 ultra classic and it seems to be running very hot. I know Harley's run hot but the reason I think it may be an issue is that the IETMS constantly kicks on at a stop. For example, this evening it's 82 degrees, low humidity and it's dusk so no sun. Went on about a 60 mile ride and at every stop, within 10 seconds, the IETMS kicks on. I really started paying attention to it and here's what I came up with.
After about 14 miles, easy going, 50 ish in 5th the whole way then came to a stop light. EITMS kicked on immediately after stop. My handy dandy Harley digital oil stick said oil temp was 238, my VH Fuel Pak says engine is 268. Does this sound right? I just can't imagine that it should run that hot after having cool air running across it for so long.
Also, I've changed the oil so I know what's in it (Mobil 1 20/50) and it has an S&S air cleaner and aftermarket slip ons (not sure what brand). I'd like to put new headers on to eliminate the cat, not sure it will help with the heat, but maybe I should go with an oil cooler with a fan.
If it's normal that is fine but I want to make sure it's nothing else. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Thanks for that. That explains why my buddies Road King doesn't come on when mine is coming on. That was part of why I was questioning the heating issue. Now that I know it's normal to pop on at 80 whether the engine needs it or not I'm a lot more relieved. Thanks again.
