Hey all. I've driven through two separate construction zones and those radar speed readers put my bike at 3 mph less than my speedometer. I was also running Google maps one day and it also read 3 mph less than my speedometer. So is there a way to test or calibrate without going to the dealer? Any reason why or what could have caused it to get off?
I dont think Ive ever owned a bike with an accurate speedometer. I havent checked the one I have now, but the last 3 were about 5 mph slower than stated, I even put air in the tires now and then
I have the same problem with my 2010 Ultra Classic. The thing is the faster I go the further off it is. When it says 75 I am only doing 70. The dealer says they cannot adjust it with the Digital Technician. If you have a different model maybe they can help you, I don't know. I wonder if this is why so many folks think bikes from that era are "over geared". They are actually going a good bit slower than the speedometer is reporting.
On my 2003 FXDWG I regeared the bike and used a module from Dakota Digital to calibrate the speedo. It was very easy to do using a GPS speedometer on my phone. They offer a module for my 2010 U.C. but it requires cutting into the wiring harness which I am not keen to do. I have just learned to live with it now that I know how far off it is.
You could check Dakota Digital's website to see if they offer a solution for your bike that you might like: Speedometer Calibration Devices
H-D is pretty tight on not letting the bike be faster than the reading, but gives a few percent the other way. At least that's the story I got when I asked that same question when I worked in tech there.

Y'all have peaked my interest with the tuner thing. I use the old original Screamin Eagle Pro Super Tuner to tune my bike. I wonder if it would be possible to use a PowerVision tuner to just adjust the speedo and then drop back to my SEPST for regular tuning?
