Default Ignition Switch 2019 HD Street Glide Special

Installed some new ape hangers on my new street glide and was so close to finished. I reinstalled the ignition switch correctly I thought....however now the lock and unlock do not line up with the key and it is hard to turn. To make it worse I can't seem to get it back off again the way I did originally, assuming it is not lined up internally so I may be in big trouble. Does anyone have any tricks to get it back off without taking it to Harley? I have watched several online videos and they are all about taking it off when it was installed correctly. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Not sure on how to do it, but why did you remove the ign switch? Changed the bars on mine also and never had to fool with it, anyway hope you find an answer to help you.

On a batwing fairing the inner fairing cap that holds the accessory switch has to come off to change the bars. Which requires the ignition keyed switch to come off.

I didn't have to remove the ignition switch when I changed bars on my '14 Limited and you probably didn't have to, either. I know that doesn't help you now, but maybe it will help the next time you change bars.

I’ve struggled with that at times because I’m too cheap to buy the tool to line everything up before putting it back together. The problem is you have to turn the bars in order to get the switch in the correct position to remove it but probably forgot to turn them again when you put it back in. To get it back out just keep trying different combinations of turning the bars while trying to remove it. When you get it out, look down the hole with a flashlight and try to line the two slots up with a screwdriver or other tool. When you put the switch in it should go in easy. Search this forum for pictures of home made tools others have used.

Curious, my bars are trapped between the two parts of the inner fairing. How do you get the bars out without removing one of the inner fairing parts?

I also have have a 19 Street Glide Special and did not remove ign switch. first remove the 2 screws, one on each side of ign cover, pull slighty away and reach your hand in and unplug wire plugs to dummy switch housing, next turn handle bars to left not quite all the way and wiggle out the housing cover to the right, might have to move the handle bars a little to left or right to snake out the cover, it will be close to the consul cover so be careful not to scratch. You do have to remove outer fairing and signal light brackets and 2 bolts on each side to pick up on inner fairing and lean it forward to get to handle bar clamp. I took pictures of the wire plugs I had to disconnect and ran my wires thru the bars.

Hind sight is 20/20. I followed the installation video from where I bought them:
I am going mess with it again this afternoon trying all different bar positions while pressing the release button on the underside of the ignition switch. I can move it around and actually it looks like it is in position now only problem is the key is in it and I can't get it out because it is misaligned.

Don't know why he did all that work to take that cover off except he had the front wheel in a block, did mine by taking the ign cover off first, then you can put bike in wheel chock or do on ground on the kickstand. Video misleading.
