I essentially toasted my 2018 Road Glide Special M8 107 with Stage IV 114 Harley Upgrade kit last week. I installed the 114 kit myself, so I take full responsibility that I mustve done something wrong on install 5,000 miles ago, but the end result is scored pistons, cylinders, lifters and worst of all the lifter ports in the case.
Since my case is damaged and a new 114 crate motor is about $6,000 Im thinking:
New HD short block ($2,300)
New S&S 124 kit ($2,000)
New ThunderMax Tuner ($800) - My HD Street Tuner from the 114 Stage IV wont work with the 124 kit
Re-use the 64mm throttle body from my Stage IV kit
Re-use the ported/polished heads from my Stage IV kit
Not exactly the same use case you have since mine is an M8 though.
If I didnt have an M8, I would probably just go with an S&S 124 crate motor or maybe the HD 120 crate motor.
Usually when a rod starts walking hard to one side like that the crank scissored on you bad or the bore alignment in one cylinder wasn't true and had a lean to one side. Bad pin bushing fit on the small end, don't usually see one where the bushing is twisting in the bore like that, another indication how out the crank was tweaked. Sucks
Engine is being rebuilt by an independent shop that has been doing a good job for a number of years. Expect to be able to break in the rebuild sometime next week. It is a rather costly business for sure. The worst of it is psychological as I had a high level of confidence in the soundness of that motorcycle now the trust is going to have to be rebuilt as well.
Shop said the crank was well within tolerances and the cylinder walls were still good, they figure the crank might have been pressed too tight and the failure of the thrust washer led to the failure of the wrist pin bushing. All going to be rebuilt, bored out one size up and new pistons.
