Apologies if there is a thread about this, I did a search and didn't find anything. What kind of effect does a lower fairing have on your bike? I'm guessing it blocks even more wind, but wouldn't the engine feel hotter without the wind blowing the heat away from you?
In regards to rear speakers, are they mainly for the passenger? I would think once you start riding, (espeacially at highway speeds) you wouldn't hear much from the rear speakers at all
I moved my rear speakers into the lower fairing, and sound is a little better for me, but not the huge improvement I thought it would make. IT's a total loss for the passenger. . As far as the rear speakers go for rider sound, below 25 you can hear them, 25-40/45 a minor contribution, above that less and less, at highway 70+ I'm not sure they're even there.
As far as lowers, there are plenty of threads and some with data from heat guns that show the lowers actually direct more air to flow over the engine. Your legs however not so much. It is cooler for the rider w/o lowers if your moving. A friend of mine once said, "I don't care about the damn engine, long as I change the oil it'll last, I'm worried about my legs" for why he never ran lowers.
I too have lowers with speakers in them. I think they made a very large difference over just the 2 stock fairing ones, but I did add an amp and upgrade all 4 of the speakers to 6.5" so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it as well.
As far as blocking the wind, etc...mine have the adjustable/movable doors in them and I usually leave them about 1/2 closed to keep some air moving to the engine and my legs. I notice a much quieter/smoother ride with them closed all the way but the difference is really minimal and for peace of mind I leave them where they are. With them fully open I can tell more of a difference on my legs and where I ride (SoCal) the temps are so high I like to block as much wind as I can from me.
Thanks for the input guys! I have the e-glide standard and will be installing a 1,000 watt amp with blue tooth and 2 speakers for now. I'm still undecided with the lower fairings, but my amp will allow me to add additional speakers if i decide to get lowers with speaker pods. We'll see how the sound is with the 2 speakers first.
