Default Inner fairing replacement question

I am in the midst of a customization and I am thinking of replacing/painting my inner fairing and the 'collar' around the igntion switch. They are both kind of faded. Does anyone know how involved this could get? Thanks for the help.

Depending on what bike you have. If you have the bat wings, it's two or three pieces to paint. If you have a Road Glide, then it's five pieces. Some folks on this board had a good idea, that you buy a used inner fairing from Ebay. Have it painted, then do a swap. Once done, sell your stock inner fairing back on Ebay or Craigslist.

Default RE: Inner fairing replacement question

Just worked on the second one last night at my buddies garage. I bought one off ebay, had it painted, and swapped it out for the one on the bike. Gave my old one to a friend, he had it panted, swapped it out with the one on his bike. Gave another one of my buddies the one the first buddy took off, he had it paintd and we swapped it out last night, now I am going to take the one we took off and have it painted for my dad for christmas, he just bought a 07 street glide. After I get his old one off, I will put it on ebay to get my money back. It takes about 3 1/2 hours if you stay working on it and have reasonable mechanical skills. Nothing really too tricky, just time consuming. You may want to have a buddy for the actual removal and replacement of the inner fairing, it is a little awkward, and cover the tank so that you don't scratch it Make sure if you are having someone paint it, that they use genuine HD paint so that you get a prefect match, I have seen some that did not use HD paint, and you could tell. Good upgrade, complettely changes the look of the bike from the riders perspective.

I did mine a couple of months ago--using the Service Manual's directions-- it went easily, just took about 6 hours.
