Which Sena? 10, 20, or 30?
BTW the Senas suck with crazy amounts of wind noise and forget about connecting well with more than 2 maybe 3 units. Sena is a waste of money!
As far as the chart shows the 10S only provides for a 4 way intercom, shorter range (not an issue for small groups or just a passenger) and audio multitasking (may be nice). With these differences what would a person gain by spending more for the 20S and the 30K. The Harley site only shows the 10S sold in pairs but I got mine as a single from my dealer.
The 10S is adequate for my needs. I tour alone and use it mostly for music, audiobooks, and podcasts. The audio multitasking may be convenient so the audio source is not temporarily muted for nav prompts which is a non issue for me. Just curious what benefits the 20 and 30 offer.
They work pretty well IMHO, the music quality is good (not great) and the intercom works pretty much as advertised. A quick suggestion to those having problems with wind noise, play with the overlay sensitivity setting on both headsets. If it's too high your music will cut out all the time with the wind noise, if it's too low you have to yell to engage the intercom. We adjust my wife's setting depending on whether she's on the back or riding her own; mine stays the same. It took us a while to get it right.
I really like being able to access all the functions from my toggles through the Boom. Pretty much all those functions are also available through the Sena jog dial, but for me it's much simpler (and safer) to do it from my handlebars. Volume up/down, song skipping, accessing playlists etc. are all really easy. When my wife is on her own bike I'm always waiting for her to get her music turned on and her phone put away and she's always fiddling with her volume trying to get it right. My music turns on when I start the bike and I'm good to go.
The down side I'm having is battery life. My wife's works great, we can ride all day and she never has a problem. I had my original unit replaced under warranty and I'm still having the same problem with battery life. I can't get through a long day's ride without a recharge, so I have to throw the charger in and find an outlet while we're having lunch which is kind of annoying. I've had my low battery alert go off after only 2-3 hours more than once. I suppose the caveat here is that I always listen to music and we talk a lot on the intercom. My wife is new to riding so I spend a lot of time coaching her while we ride.
I'm unsure what to do about my battery life issue, all my firmware is up-to-date and don't feel like buying another headset. I'll probably just re-link the headsets to the Boom the with hers as the the drivers and mine as the passenger and see what that does. I'll least I'll know for sure if it's the headset or a problem with the WHIM.
The bottom line is that when they work they work great when they don't they can be aggravating as hell, kind of like technology in general.

Cool thing is, if you turn your intercom off (hit the round button once) either you or your wife can turn it back on from either location (hit the round button again). When we do this, the battery lasts all day...
Something to try anyway.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Fast forward to a road trip with family member and his wife and I could not connect (3 way) to their HD branded helmets with installed HD branded Sena 20s. So when I got home I decided to upgrade to the "best" and got the Sena 30K duo.
On our first ride together, intercom kept dropping off, all I could hear was popcorn popping coming from her headset, and my battery died in less than an hour. When riding solo, and having it paired to my iphone, it constantly told me "intercom failed, try again later". I had no one to connect to, nor was I trying to. I kept giving the voice command to cancel, and it would acknowledge the command, only to try again less than 5 min later.
I took that back (Cyclegear is fantastic in this respect) and "downgraded" to the 20s. So far everything works as it is supposed to. Have not been able to try to connect with the previous rider, as they live in WA and we live in CA.
By the way, I wear a full face helmet, and they were wearing HD half helmets with Sena built in. He sounded fantastic in my ear. He rides a 2010 Ultra. I even asked if he was talking loud or yelling and he said just a little above normal volume. The built in helmet has the mic under the visor, out of sight, and the speakers are in the foam facing down towards the ear. The only visual clue it has the Sena is the slender unit attached to the helmet.
