Just had first service and used syn3. No difference that I can hear or feel. Was hoping I would.

amsoil in engine and primary bell ray 85w-140 in trannie. belray is what my service tech at the dealer suggested. he even told me they use. so yea tell me again about warenty work at dealers only suggesting using only their oil.
the belray 85w-140 gear oil sounds good in the trannie real quit shifting now. i like. might try amsoil 75w-140 severe gear next time therefore i can keep it all amsoil

Yeah I run the belray 85W-140 in the trannies of both my bikes. Such a difference in the shifting, much smoother and quite. I couldn't believe the difference, plus with it being red, makes it easy to read on the stick. I ran the syn3 in my fatboy for a while but I started getting a ticking sound, switched back to the reg harley 20-50 and the ticking went away, I do run the syn3 in my primary tho. The 04 ultra I just bought, has syn 3 in the primary and oil case, still kind of undecided on what I'll do when oil change time comes around. Personally I think the Syn 3 is a bunch of expensive hype!

Anyone else run straight 50W or 60W in the motor? In HOT climates this might be an option, especially if most of your riding is longer distances (not alot of short trips/cold starts).

Have used Red Line and Amsoil in tranny in 94 Road king and 09 Ultra, both quiet and smooth shifting, neutral a easy find. will have to check out Bell Ray, good info on our forum as usual.

I've heard that claimed a number of times. Since I didn't have an oil temp gauge when I first switched to synthetic so I can't say from that what kind of temperature improvement occurred when I switched. All I know is that my personal temp gauge, my right leg, couldn't tell that it made any difference at all. I feel engine heat the most at or slightly above my right ankle and I can tell you that switching to synthetic oil did nothing that I could tell from that perspective.

I recently did a Stage 1 upgrade from Fuel Moto and most of what I've read on such things is that it would also help engine temps. I think it has to some degree but I've still had my leg get plenty warm on a few occasions. The bottom line is, it's still an air cooled engine. Get stuck in slow moving traffic long enough and it's going to warm up regardless of the kind of oil involved or the presence of any kind of EFI reprogramming.

JMO!

Ride Safe,
Steve R.

My closest dealer suggested belray for the trans when I asked if they sold redline heavy. He said they use the belray instead of the formula+. he said it would make it shift smoother, I haven't noticed any change and it's been over 500 miles. I am going to try the redline shock proof heavy next. I have a couple cases of mobil 1 vtwin for the engine and primary.
