Guys, I'm looking for a modular helmet. I'm aware that HJC makes the HD modular helmet. But I just want to confirm if there are any differences btwn the Capstone or HJC IS Max 2? Only difference that I can see is stickers on the helmets. Harley sells the Capstone for $250, whereas Cycle Gear sells the HJC for $188.00.
Ironically, Harley and Cycle Gear is across the street from each other. lol
Yes, they are the same. I am also researching modular helmets. I am going to wait a few weeks as HJC is releasing their i90 helmet in December, which has several improvements over the IS MAX2, but for the same price.
You are correct. I have an IS-Max 2 Capstone and I just entered "helmet hell", trying to find a new modular that fits properly. I bought an i90 in XL and it seemed to catch more air than my old Capstone. I don't think the venting is as good as the IS-Max 2. As it broke in, fit wasn't that great for me. I picked up a new Capstone in L and while the smaller shell doesn't catch as much air, I just can't get comfortable in that helmet. Glasses are an issue for me with the L. I've traded cheek pads from L to 2XL trying to get each helmet to fit. I've contacted HJC to see if they have options to tighten the crown a bit. My melon measures 23-1/2" - right in-between L and XL.
I have an IS MAX2 and its a comfortable, well-designed helmet. The vents dump out a lot of hot air out of the back, but let in a lot of noise. The face shields can be changed out in a few seconds without tools, which is nice.
HJCs sizing is all over the place, and you should definitely try their helmets on in person for the proper fit. I wear a 2XL Bell 500, but it took a 4XL HJC. I even added 5XL pads to give a little more room inside the helmet.

You aren't kidding. I sit right between a Large and XL in the i90, which should put me in a Large C91. I tried one on this afternoon and it fit like vice grips on my temples. As a direct comparison, I tried on a large Shoei Neotec II. It's supposed to be the same head diameter as the C91. It felt like an angel was cradling my head in her cleavage. Seriously. I wondered what the big deal was with Shoei, and unfortunately I found out. I might have 4 HJC's showing up for sale.
