Default Replacement footboard inserts

I am hard on my foot boards. For some reason I push them sideways and eventually the rubber cushions on the bottom rip and the inserts come lose. Is there a way I can replace the rubber without having to replace the whole insert? My inserts are still in good shape and are now discontinued and I would rather not switch to a different style. Thanks for any help.

You talking about the rubber "****" that pushes through the hole and holds the insert onto the board? If so I cant think of any good way of repairing that. Maybe you could run a bolt with a flush head through it? But that might look goofy...

I hadd the same problem. Stuck em back together with some good contact cement. 6 months and several thousand miles, and still holding fine.

Perhaps some countersunk screws, with self-locking nuts?

I think this is the best answer. If the rubber can not be replaced I might as well try to repair it as good as I can. If that doesn't work then I will have to replace with something else.
Thanks for the replies. Very helpful.

They wear out after a while and dry rot or deteriorate. I replaced a set on both of my Road Kings when they got to be somewhere right around 8 or 9 years old.
