Default More room

Howdy All! I have a 2018 Ultra Limited Low that was originally purchased for the better half to take over and I was going to get myself something different in the spring. After having it awhile she realizes that she wants something smaller so lucky me I get to keep the bike and make it my own. In doing so, I want to get a bit more room on the bike. I was looking at having my seat rebuilt by Mean City this winter and was considering new handlebars to add a little arm room. I have been told since it is a low the stock handlebars are pushed back towards the rider with little to no room to move it forward. I like the look of the shorter apes with the point, hopefully that makes sense, but I have no idea where to start. Just looking around at different bars it seems like some are made with a bend to move the controls/grips forward (towards the front wheel) a bit and higher. I am thinking about a 9"-10" rise should be good for me just based on the pics I have seen and from sitting on different bikes. Does anyone have any suggestions or pictures of similar swaps they could share? Also, just how difficult is it to change the bars yourself? I am fairly mechanically inclined and have done car work in the past on my own cars.

If you bought it new you could visit your dealer and ask them to advise. Many dealers have a 'fit centre', to help owners tailor their bikes to get comfortable.

Floorboard Extension, seen at this LINK, are surprising in how much more room it feels like you have. Most who get them do not realize how cramped up they were until after installing them.

Before spending money on a seat or handlebars, you may find it useful to read over "The Comfort Triangle" at this LINK. This is a way to get the right handlebars the first time.

I personally would start with the seat. The lows have a "reach" seat and to me, are way too cramped. From there, I'd look to bars. Bars that feel better with that reach seat may change when you get to changing the seat.

Seats are cheap compared to bars. Check the classified here on this forum for a stock Ultra seat. You can save some money and have a starting point. I would then sit or ride an ultra or Limited standard height and see if you like the stock bars. They are 8" rise and not as much pull-back as the lows. If you like the stock bars, those too can be had from the classifieds. Guys change bars a lot and have stock ones to sell.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I will go ahead and do the seat first then look at the handlebars. I will also look at getting an extended brake pedal as well, didn't know they were available. Does anyone know if you can adjust it to sit lower? I have to raise my foot up off of the floorboard basically to use the pedal.

There is no adjustment for making the brake pedal sit lower. However, at this LINK there is an arm that you can use that will lower the brake pedal pad so that you don't need to raise your foot off the floorboard to use it.

On my ‘15 LTD I bought the extended reach seat and works well for me. The stock seat felt like I was sitting on the tank.

i believed it moves you back 2” and down 1” they had trail seats at my dealer.

If you really want some room look into Cyclesmithe Banana Boards, XL model. They are 21" long which gives you plenty of real estate. Get an idea from this pic of my bike.

Extended brake pedal will lower the angle of the rear brake pedal many of us go that route.
