Default Windshield height ?

so i have ? for those of you that ride long distance do you use a large windshield or the shorty what do you prefer and do you have issue with wind

i have a ultra limited 2015 had stock 10 in but went to a 13 thinking about going to a 16 in my issue is when going speeds more than 50 mph and wearing helmet i get bad turbulence ( shaking of my head ) no helmet im fine

im not exaggerating when saying bad turbulence first ride i took was 6 hours and ended up with eye problems due to head trauma caused by wind took 3 months for the fluid buildup on back of my eye to go away

i wear Harley half helmet

im 5 foot 8 in in height
tried these all same problem
wind splitter 7 in
klock werks 6.5 in
klock werks 8.5 in
stock 10 in
slipstreamer 13 in best so far

Head trauma, eye problems and fluid build up from just riding your bike above 50???

Did any of your previous motorcycles give you any issues at highway speeds?

It's not all about the windshield height, has some to do with air coming up from below.
I use a LRS curved shield with lower FANGS and wings on the fairing and it helps tremendously with turbulence whether I'm using 4", 6" or 10" high shield.

With my 2013 Ultraglide it had a 3 in on it when I bought it. The first helmet I bought was horrible it felt like I was in a boxing match above 60 and the vents rattled a lot. I bought a Shoei helmet which was waaaaay better. I still had movement so I put a 7” wind splitter and that was another vast improvement. I still get some turbulence at higher speed over 70 mph but it is coming from the gap between the fairing and tank and is not bad at all.
I demoed a 10 in wind splitter and did not like it.

If you are saying you don't experience any issues without a helmet, but you do when you where your Harley half helmet, maybe your chasing the wrong thing - Maybe you should be looking for a new helmet - of do some neck muscle exercises to build some strength in your neck

Next time your out riding , place your hand ( palm down ) beside your tank and see just how much turbulence is coming up from there . I would bet most of the issue is coming from that . I solved my issue by putting a set of " fangs " . It removed 80% of the turbulence I was experiencing . It was not something I wanted to do , but it worked , so I got use to them being there . Since putting them on , I'm now using a lower windshield because I hate looking through it , I prefer looking over it . There are other type of wind deflectors other than " fangs " . Maybe check with DK Customs ..

I'm in the same camp as others, with the problem coming from under the bike and not over. I was out riding recently on my new bike after adding a taller windscreen. The newer height helped, but I noticed that when I positioned my legs differently in riding, it would create a noticeable difference in the head turbulence. If I ride with my feed on the highway pegs I get more air coming up. Then I put my feet on the floor boards and didn't notice much, but when I tucked my legs into the gas tank there was a NOTICEABLE difference in head turbulence. I would suggest a very simply experiment that cost nothing. Get out on the highway at over 50 and experiment with placement of your feet and legs and see if it doesn't make a difference. If you don't notice the difference you can at least rule it out and go back to the height of your windscreen. Good luck in the search.

Since you live in Michigan install fork deflectors. I use Baker Wind Blockers down here so I can open and close as I want. One of the best $160 investments I've made for a bike.

I'm 5'10" and use a Sundowner seat on my dressers and a 8" LRS recurve shield. I've ridden almost 100,000 miles the last five years.

I only have one eye so I can't have my head bouncing. If my head shakes much I can't focus. I also use a half helmet.
