If you decide to buy it, see if the owner has the genuine FSM and the parts book, otherwise get them pdq, from your local friendly H-D dealer. They may not hold them in stock but CAN get them for you.
I recall they had a fully enclosed rear chain. All of these are "good" things.
Shovels require a bit more attention than later models but they can be reliable and enjoyable.
Parts availability in UK?
Member GB Brown would be a great resource for you
Hope he chimes in
I live in the UK and have owned Harleys since 1974, a new shovelhead FX1200 which I bought from the only Harley dealer in the UK at the time, and was one of the few new Harleys shipped to the UK up to that time. Later that year H-D UK was established and a handful of new dealers set up, but prior to that most Harleys in the UK were wartime bikes the US Army kindly left behind after WW2 (vast stocks of new and used bikes and spares). By the time the Evos came out in 1984 we had a few more dealers, but turn over has been high and I'm not sure many of our current dealers can trace their involvement with Harleys back that far.
Which is by way of saying that expertise in shovelheads in the British Isles is sparse! We have hardly any experience in them IMHO, although there is a small number of enthusiastic owners. A similar comment relates to Evos, as most current UK dealers post-date them, which is why I spend time here in HDF. I do however have a local friendly ex-H-D indy who has extensive experience, a pretty rare beast over here.
So that FLT is a great bike and well worth investing IMHO. Something very much in its favour is that it has a lot in common with Evo touring bikes, so there is plenty of experience of them, especially in the HDF Evo forum. Early Evos have other things in common with that FLT, so if you decide to buy it, make yourself known over there and also visit the Shovelhead section.

Ah, that'll be me!
