Default Connect Bluetooth every ride???

Every time I ride my 2018 RG I have to connect my phone. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

My bike is a 2014 Street Glide Special. In the 5 years I have owned it, I have had to pair the Bluetooth about 6 times, usually after a major update to the phone OS. Once after a dealer service. I have noticed that it may take a minute or so to make a connection.

Greetings,

Couple of questions: 1. How are you connecting your phone to the bike? Bluetooth or cable?
2. Why are you connecting your phone? Music? SiriusXM? Charging?
3. How do you answer your phone when you're riding? Wired headset? Bluetooth headset?
4. Do you use CarPlay with your phone?

Personally, I plug my iPhone in when I ride to use CarPlay and thus, SiriusXM and Waze. And of course, to charge the iPhone.

There's a difference between pairing and connecting.
Pairing your phone and radio introduces the two devices to each other - they now know each other and will connect with one another.
If you have bluetooth enabled on your phone, and you turn your bike/radio on, they will need a minute or so to find each other and connect.
Sometimes there are settings in the phone that require one to manually connect devices every time, so as to prevent unwanted connections.
Sometimes if the phone is already connected to one device, it will not automatically connect to another device.

Apple Carplay is not an app, it is an interface that many new radios have built-in (the Boom! GTS system on 2019+ bikes have this). The Android version is called Android Auto. These software interfaces are built into the radio and when you connect the phone to the radio via a USB cable, the radio becomes an extension of the phone (i.e. the radio looks similar to an iPhone/Android screen and you can control the phone). Google it.

if your bluetooth option on the phone is on, it should connect automatically

but it has to be paired once and then it will automatically connect every time the devices are in range and on
