2020 & Apple Car Play and WHIM
It won't let you run a wireless headset that's paired to the bike. If you leave it paired to the phone, then audio comes from the phone to the headset, and the display still works fine. I don't believe it will allow sound through the bike's audio system, but I won't know 'til I test it on Monday. I don't need external audio, myself; I'm not that guy blasting his music like that, so for me, if the sound just goes to BT, I'll be happy. The man who makes the connector has a youtube video showing it work exactly like this, so here's hoping it works as advertised for me when I get it.
one thing this adapter will not do is allow you to run CarPlay and a wired headset at the same time. someone on another forum found out that if you have a bike that comes with a wired setup (ultra, etc) and you plug in a wired headset, you lose CarPlay with this adapter attached.
This is a better option because then you can still use the wireless microphone on your headset to control CarPlay.

The reason it doesn't work that way in your car is because the car already has a built-in microphone; essentially the car version of the bike's wired headset setup. As stated earlier, on the GoldWing the BT headset connects to the bike and it works through there, but HD being HD, they decided to make it so you had to buy more stuff to make it work that way, which is why Apple refuses to list them as officially CarPlay compatible. This jumper tricks the bike, and it just plain works.I just installed it, and Siri talks to the phone via my BT, and CarPlay WORKS. Handlebar controls work for changing tracks, moving the cursor around the CP screen, too. No volume control via handlebars, but that was the same with my Cardo unit before, too. I just use voice to tell the Cardo to get louder or softer. The only oddball thing (and it was this way before today), is that once you start music on the phone when it's connected via USB, I have to hit the play button on my BT to send music to the headset instead of over speakers (and this might just be a Cardo thing), but again, I did that before anyway. Map apps work, music works, Siri works, all through the headset. Now, if you want to run this through your speakers and not a headset, then obviously you won't have voice ability, but you could just turn on your BT and put it in a pocket and CP still works over speakers, but just for output. I could see doing this if I'm wearing a half helmet or another helmet without a BT setup inside.
Beyond pleased that this is working - thanks, Brian Sofley! You're doing god's work.
