Ok, I don't want to get bashed for bringing up another 'Oh My God, All Hell's Breaking Loose Topic" But, I read this off another forum I particapate in and was quite concerned. I havn't heard of this potentail problem before and wanted to run it by you guy's. I copied this direct and my apoligises go out to the author if he has a problem with me Copying, pasting and posting. Sorry.......Putt
There is a problem, and a major one. The crank on my 07 110" managed to
twist during the 1100 miles i have accumalated. A few weeks ago in 5-
mile an hour traffic jam, the crank let go a little futher which caused
it to nick the inner housing of the the crank position sensor. Before i
knew what was going on, i lost my oil and the motor went into sieze
mod. The MoCo is replacing complete motor under warranty.
This issue is very common, a lot of folks are discussing it on other
forums. The service manager at my dealership even told me of several
other 07's with similar problems, which include blown head gaskets
within 100 miles.
No one has put their finger on the problem yet. Seems the MoCo does not
hesitate to get problem motors back to the factory. My service mangager
was eager to split the case to inspect problems, but the MoCO would not
allow it, they wanted that motor back and even requested the delear
ship to send it within two working days.
Seems they have an issue and confronting them on a one on one basis
when needed. Typical HD style.
First I've heard of it on an 07. I have heard that whacking the throttle open at low rpm's can do that to a crank assembly. 2500 rpm or less is what I was told.
Being in the manufacturing buz. I can agree with harley. If you think there might be an issue out there replace it and get the defective one back and see what is causing the problem. Sometimes it all boils down to assembly at the factory. Other times its a defective piece. I still don't see why harley can't do anything about the 5th and 6th gear tranny whine. I will say red Line heavy Shock Proof is great cleared all but 5% of the noise.
First your question is not a 07 issue as 99% of 07 touring models dont have a 110 motor. Only CVO screaming eagle models do. So this could be a problem but it would only be limited to Screaming Eagle model owners. You might get more answers posting this in the CVO section.
I have read that the press fit on the flywheels is not tight enough, allowing the crank to become out of alignment. The performance fix was to weld them after aligning the flywheels.

It's a nasty little secret. Well, not so secret, actually, if you read over on HTT, there's lots of stories of twisted cranks. The lower end has been cheapend with the demise of the Timken roller bearing at the end of 2002, and now the cast flywheels that came in about 2005. I think HD saw that most of the bikes that go out of the showroom these days see little mileage before the warranty runs out, so they cheapend up the motor to cut costs or get richer or both. Problem is worse on bikes that are breathed on. They cheapened the heart of the motor IMO. S&S is making a ton of dough on replacement "real" cranks.
One thing I noticed, when I bought my '05, the extended warranty was pushed hard. (I didn't bite), but the last two bikes I bought, it was never mentioned.
Itâs not uncommon for a manufacturer to want a failed product untouched for an in house failure analysis.
Just talk to the Corvette and Viper mechanics. Theyâll tell you the new replacement engines arrive in special containers and the defective engines go into the same containers then theyâre immediately shipped back to the factory.
My 07 FLHRS just went over 5,000 miles. I still have no complaints.
