i have a friend in the commercial sandblasting business that is gonna deliver a piece of equipment to nashville tn sometime this spring or summer.l think i have him talked to trailering our bikes out, parking the truck and trailer once the piece is delivered and leaving nashville and heading west to kingman az.hitting route 66 along the way.has anyone made that leg of a trip out west, and how far until we can ride route 66?we plan on taking about 2 weeks to ride before heading back to pick up the truck and trailer.
A couple of riding buddies and I have gone from Charlotte NC to So Cal and back a couple of times. Route 66 is actually much of I40 from OKC on to Kingman. R66 veers off onto the main streets of many of the small towns you'll come across, specially into NM and AZ. Albuquerque has some historic spots along Central Ave. Once in AZ, there is a turn off in Seligman, between Flagstaff and Kingman, that will take you into several small towns before you get to Kingman. Someone else can chime in with other sites.
You want to ride through Arizona in the summer??? You like riding the interstate when it's 110 degrees ??? You can get off the freeway and on to some parts of the old Route 66 but not much and usually has a bunch of lights. I did that in Gallup New Mexico not too long ago.
If you are going to be in Nashville, head east and go to the Dragon and the Cherahala Skyway. So many great scenic rides in that area, the temps wont be so bad and it won't take two days to get there.

Just a suggestion.
I-40 in Arizona is mostly mile high elevation and over 7,000 feet around Flagstaff. Seriously doubt he will hit temps above 100.
Elevation above sea level:
Gallup, NM 6,465
Winslow, AZ 4,850
Flagstaff, AZ 6,905

Fairly dry conditions from the panhandle westward. The Nashville to Oklahoma City segment might be the warmest part of the ride.
I agree Nashville - OKC was pretty warm when my buddies and I headed west. The dry heat westward was fairly comfortable though. Late spring to early summer might be good riding for the OP temp-wise. They may hit some rain from Nashville to the panhandle, but the rest of the way may be dry from what I remember.
Kingman can get pretty warm in the summer. I remember when we went through there, we were practically bare naked riding from Kingman to Barstow.
