So Corbin seats have to be broken-in over a few thousand miles? That sounds like a righteous load of crap by a seat manufacturer with a line of uncomfortable seats.
How many of you would buy a recliner chair that felt damned uncomfortable in the furniture store but the salesman claimed would get more comfortable over the next year?
I'll never own another bike that I don't equip with a Mustang seat.
I have the Dual Tourer on my Street Glide and have loved it from the 1st mile. The back support is superb, and I personally don't notice it being overly firm.
I've owned a 5-6 Corbins on my different bikes over the years and have found them all comfortable (with 1 exception, but that one was more a function of the low-profile style of seat which provided little back support).
You can read hindreds of posts on this board and you will come up with 1 certainty: the seat is the most subjective subject around!
Coke vs Pepsi
Apple vs Microsoft
Corbin vs Mustang vs HD Sundowner
etc...
I switched out my seat on my 07 SEUC a couple of months ago. I could not stand to ride on the stock seat for more than a couple of hours. When I first got my Corbin (and I went down and had it fitted) I was not much better off. Shortly after that, I went on a 7k mile trip across country. Every day I was tired and a little uncomfortable, but I was able to keep riding. Now I don't notice it much at all. I'm not sure if the seat broke in or I did?
I will tell you that I put a Mustang seat on my last bike and never had a break in period. It was good from day one. The only reason I went Corbin this time was so the seat would match my SE bike with the Ostrich insert.
I actually like the seat now. But it did take some time....
Truer words have never been spoke, no two butts are the same.
I have found a cure to the seat swap problem thats no where near as expensive as a seat swap, its called an AirHawk.
As mentioned earlier by myself, the Sundowner was the ticket for me, but my wife wasn't as thrilled. Enter the AirHawk. She was so pleased with it I decided I'd give it a go or two. To my surprise this is one of the only seat "fixes" proposed by a manufacturer that actually does what its advertised to do. Well worth the money if you don't want the expense of seat swapping...... JMO....... T
ORIGINAL: StreetGlide2006 I had a Corbin on my Gold Wing and it made the long rides much more bearable.
Wahl, whup me with a spoon an' call me Shirley! Hey, Mike!!! Ah wondered what happened ta ya! Reckon y'know Jack Sides is on a HD (since 2001, jest bought him a new '07 last week), Doug Graves got him one 'bout January or so....ah got mine in November '06 - all UC's. Lee Barnett had one, went ta a Valk when someone wanted the UC he had REAL bad...an' had the cash ta back it up
So...when ya gonna come ta the Alamo Run, son?!??
Anyways....like Mike, ah've had 3 Corbins so far - all on Wings - an' they were super fer long days. They'll NEVER be soft - but they WILL let ya go tank-ta-tank-ta-tank (ah did a TX ta MS run earlier this year, 760 miles one-way, stopped long 'nuff ta top off an' hit the road again). Mah next one will most likely be a Russell Day-Long. They are generally considered ta be THE "top-shelf" of long distance saddles....
Better known from the WOTI lists as "The Texas Redneck" or "Pappy" <don't ask!>
Got a Corbin Dual Touring for my 05 Ultra - have like 500 miles on the seat. Still seems stiff. Those who have a Corbin, how long did it take to break in the your seat? Also, what do you use to condition the seat?
Thanks
Right, like others have said it is always going to be very firm. But for me the reason I like my corbin is that I no longer get lower back pain when riding, and while I do have to shift around on it a couple times through a tank of gas to avoid the bottom getting sore, any soreness is gone after a quick gas stop.
I'm up to about 2000 mi on my corbin classic solo.
I haven't noticed much change in the seat. The thing I did notice is that after my first hour test ride after putting it on I was really stiff the next morning. But that was my back muscles breaking in to the new support and posture, not the seat breaking in.
It stays firm but it does get softer than when new. Mine broke in on my trip to NY from NC and back. By the time I got back home.. It fealt like a seat custom made for me. I don't ever get sore and I ride all the time. Best seat I have ever owned. I won't even look at other brands. Not that they aren't good but I found what works for me.
