Oh stupid autocorrect or me fat fingering. I ment 550 cord.
once you stop, figure how far you're going to travel the next day and start checking for a good hotel in that area. it's a whole lot easier to do this research from the comfort of your room than on the side of the road. and have a plan b worked out. we've been know to make 3 reservations, spaced out, then if we don't want to stop at the first one, we'll cancel it and go on to the next, etc. i know it sounds like extra work, but if you've ever been in the situation where you've wanted to stop and there was no room at the inn, then you'll appreciate having planned in advance.
you don't mention your age, but if you're over 50, look at an aarp membership. i've had better discounts through aarp, than i have through military. and even though i'm not a 'senior', the discount code says aarp/senior, so to me that means one or the other. i've never had anyone give me a hard time over it either. one stay, and the membership is paid for the entire year.
we try to stay with the same chain of hotels, that way we can rack up the points and get a free night or 2 out of the deal.
