600 miles a day is a full day I usually check the hotels in advance on google maps and make sure there is a good restaurant that serves cold beer walking distance to my hotel. .Also I have a cooler bag that keeps my water and gator aid cold all day, just get fresh ice in the morning from your hotel.Sunscreen and a spray cleaner to get the bugs off, good rain gear and a face shield if you hit rain. Fresh oil change and check your tire pressure, most of all HAVE FUN !

have a plan, but be flexible. i like to make a reservation the day prior for a hotel the next day. around lunchtime, we re-evaluate. if we don't think we'll make that destination, we'll call and cancel our reservation. don't be so rigid that you push it too hard to make your stop. that takes the fun out of it. imperative that you check the hotel's cancellation policy before you make the reservation, some hotels are now requiring 24hrs advance notice of cancellation, where they used to be by 6pm that day.

once you stop, figure how far you're going to travel the next day and start checking for a good hotel in that area. it's a whole lot easier to do this research from the comfort of your room than on the side of the road. and have a plan b worked out. we've been know to make 3 reservations, spaced out, then if we don't want to stop at the first one, we'll cancel it and go on to the next, etc. i know it sounds like extra work, but if you've ever been in the situation where you've wanted to stop and there was no room at the inn, then you'll appreciate having planned in advance.

you don't mention your age, but if you're over 50, look at an aarp membership. i've had better discounts through aarp, than i have through military. and even though i'm not a 'senior', the discount code says aarp/senior, so to me that means one or the other. i've never had anyone give me a hard time over it either. one stay, and the membership is paid for the entire year.

we try to stay with the same chain of hotels, that way we can rack up the points and get a free night or 2 out of the deal.

that seems pretty wasteful. get a pack of these, rinse and repeat.

Lots of great ideas here! There are some things I never would have thought of that are sure to make it into the travel packs (mud mask is probably not one of them) or saddle bags. I'm getting over a broken foot so I have some time to decide what I want to add. Also with the bike still in storage I can have the dealer install any goodies before I pick it up.
Thanks again
Mark

Any other Ideas are still welcome!!

Highway pegs. Made a nice difference on my Road King in giving me options for seating position.
