Hi - new to the thread. My question is regarding an 03 Road King and wanting to put on a better performance exhaust. I've got a Screaming Eagle Performance set on it now with the Stage 1 (EFI).
My goal is to modify it for more of a drag pipe sound. I'm looking at the Rinehart True Duals or the Samson True Duals. Cost aside, but not really.... (Rineharts are about 2X the cost), can anyone comment as a comparison of quality, sound and performance (back pressure) ? In conjunction with a pipe change, I was going to go to a K&N high flow air filter.
If true performance is what you are after, then a two-into-one exhaust is the way to go. The true duals dont have a cross-over pipe, so they cant equalize, and the exhaust length with differ between the front cylinder and the rear. Those two things wont help performance.
bfbfbf,
I just ordered a "05" Road King Classic, I am haveing the Rinehart duals & stage 1. put on before I pick it up. if your not in any hurry I will let you know how they are around the end of March. Also there is another member on here, he just ordered the same thing, his will be here in a couple of weeks. I think it was roadking05, something along that line.
Good Luck & welcome aboard.

I agree with "Sincecrazy"; True Duals will not increase your performance.
The Y-pipe or crossover on Harley exhaust serves two purposes.
One reason is for noise emission control. The other is for an exhaust tuning effect, which benefits your low to mid-range power.
This loss of mid-range power has been noted by some of our customers, who installed True Dual headers.
I'm picking up my '05 RK Classic from the shop on Thursday. I just had V&H true dual headers and V&H classic slip-ons installed, along with a Stage 1 Breather Kit. I'll let you know how it sound/runs in a couple of days. Hopefully, the loss of mid-range power won't be too bad. (This is the first time I've heard that...I was under the impression that the headers and breather kit were going to increase my horsepower.)
There are a couple of sites around that show dyno results with different combinations of equipment and mods. They will prove the point. Sincecrazy is right on target. One of the best performance pipes available is the Vance and Hines Propipe which is a 2 into 1. (There are several look alikes but I don't know how they perform.) To get get the best performance you need the right back pressure. I can't remember the mfg., but there is a 2 into 1 that looks like a propipe but has the ability to actually tune the back pressure by adjusting the baffles. However, I don't see the return for the effort and cost of messing with that. I'm just too lazy. The only reason I don't have a propipe is because I like the way two pipes look on my RK Classic. Besides if I go to fast noone can see the bike. LOL
