2008 classic Starter ring gear replacement +
symptoms started a few months ago with a intermittent grinding noise when I would start the bike. Tested the battery and found a bad cell. With battery replaced it seemed to cure the issue....until it didnt.ha
Next for me was to check the starter gear. Having a what the attitude about it, i replaced the gears with all ***** set up. Rebuild went good but when i pulled the starter out i revealed the real issue. The starter ring gear is missing teeth.
so here we go. Today i get to order parts. While i am in there i will also swap out the chain tensioner. Any recommendations? Will keep this updated as i go along.
Here are the parts i am looking at. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks all!

Now the compensator,,,, Yes they have been / could be the weak link in the primary, (especially on your model),,,,, Depending on miles , say 50k , I would replace ,, again you call ….Your model will require a new rotor to accept the new updated compensator …
Other things you could spend money on depending on mileage are ,,,, new clutch plates etc ,,,, again you call …. Also if you don't replace the compensator , you could install the plastic oil sling that is glued to inner primary cover , (that comes with the new compensator)… May be of some benefit even with the older style compensator …. Good luck ….

Make sure you put a critical eyeball on the compensator components.
