Been doing some searching to find some answers, and have not found an answer. The driver back rest on my SG has a spring broke and missing. The pad flops in the breeze. It flops forward and has no spring (well very little) tension to keep it pulled up. Riding is fine, it fits up to my back nicely. But the flopping and missing spring have me a bit pissed. Anyone replaced this spring? If you have, can you give me an idea of what size, length, tension, etc I would need to replace? Or tips, hints, or suggestions???
Thanks for any input.
Just measured mine, except for tension. An observation, the arms go wider than the spring, so it isn't captive. You can buy the spring from HD (part 10406), but if I were you, I'd just swing by Lowe's or Home Depot, or even Fastenal. Take the seat with you. As long as it fits over the nubs and you can squeeze it to get it in and out, you should be good. I've been thinking about doing this myself and then taping or zip-tying it up high on one of the arms so I have a spare.
Free length = 2.25"
Compressed = .675"
ID = .375"

Thanks Chuck...but this is the spring up under the back rest cover....not the spring that holds the back rest in place at the fender. The one that is in there appears to be about 3/8" dia. and has hooks at both ends.
Sorry, misunderstood. If mine is factory (got it on eBay used), this is the dumbest design ever. Hooks into the plate, then around and down to another cross member plate. Not sure how else to explain it. If that's it, just a double hook end spring.
Overall: 4"
Coil length: 2.25"
Diameter: ~.375"
