Default 2008 Street Glide brakes

I am getting close to needing pads on the 08. I have searched, but 'brakes' doesn't narrow it down to any info I can use...

Are there any upgrades worth making on the 08? Or is stock replacement the best option? I need to run a brake fluid flush, so that will be done too.

Also, I have an issue with the rear tire locking up too easily. This is my 6th motorcycle, and I have never experienced lockup quite this easy. Low speed, high speed, doesn't matter. The rear brake is more like an on/off switch than a progressive friction point. Any ideas on what might cause this or is it just like that?

Thanks

I run OE pads on the Brembos. Have you had your brake fluid changed and ABS cycled as part of it yet?

I just did a bit of reading on this topic myself and decided on EBC HH sintered pads. Only did rears for now, fronts are ok still. Cheap, good USA made parts and while I haven't ridden much at all with them in pleased so far.

All I did was scrub the caliper out with brake clean and a toothbrush before I pushed the pistons in then coated any pad-caliper surfaces with good brake grease.

I had it done 2 years ago, and will be flushing them again. The fronts were done last year.

Thanks for the advice! I will look into those pads.

Have a look at your rotor , could be warped causing a lock up . Not knowing how long it's been since the caliper was serviced I would look at that , as well as the master cylinder .

Caliper cylinders could be dirty / sticking , when they do finally release they lock up the rotor , possibly . Using a tooth brush and some flat shoe lace clean as much of the cylinder as you can . I made a small block about the same thickness as the two pads and placed it inside the caliper , then expanded the cylinders , you want to be sure the cylinder does not pop out of the housing . When you put the new pads in make sure you use brake grease or anti seize on the back sides of the pads and the pins , a thin coat will do . If your seals are leaking , time for a rebuild kit .

If rotor checks out and cleaning the caliper doesn't solve the problem , I would look at doing a master cylinder rebuild , and replace the brake line .
