Found a 2016 Road Glide navigation head unit for sale in a classified. I'ts just the head unit no other equipment comes with it. My question is what else do I need to replace the stock unit I have now(no nav) and install the head unit with navigation? Is it a simple plug and play assuming I have the cables and stuff?
Does the radio come with the GPS antenna? If not you’ll need 76000222 antenna to put in your fairing. Grantham, eh? I’m just across the way in White River Jct.
Thanks for the info. I need to update my user profile as I just moved from Grantham(lived there for about 30yrs) to Saco Maine. I think might purchase the head unit if it's only a matter of sourcing the antenna.
Should just plug right in. Is the one youre getting a Boom GT6.5 w/Nav? If so it should come with the puck for the GPS. Whats in it now, the smaller stereo? I have one for sale in the classifieds here also, out of a 2016 Road Glide Ultra. Check the bracket on your current stereo, see if itll work on the new one, if so move it over to the new one, it bolts on top and the fairings top vent snaps down into it. I think theres 4 screws on that and 4 more hold the stereo in and it lifts right out. Put the new one in... Then plug your am/fm, cb, Sirius, gps antennas all plug in, plug the usb cable in plus the big cam-lock connector and youre done. On the Road Glides its a piece of cake. You may/probably will still have to take it to a dealer to have it programmed on their DigitalTech for your bike, takes 15-20 minutes. Heres the back of the stereo, if youre getting a Boom6.5, not much difference if youre getting a GTS, just with it H-D says you need to update your usb cable, but I didnt.
The head unit I wanted to buy is from a 2016 Road Glide Special. My bike is a 2016 Road Glide. Are you saying there's a difference in NAV head units whether it comes from a Special or not?
No I am not, the only difference in say mine, out of a Road Glide Ultra, and one out of a Ultra Limited (bat wing faring) would be the bracket on top. In that case you’d just use the bracket off the old unit. But Road Glide to Road Glide, same thing and use the bracket you already have... the head units are the same. It doesn’t matter if it comes out of a Road Glide Ultra, Road Glide Special, Ultra Limited... it doesn’t matter, if it’s a Boom GT 6.5, the only thing different is the bracket on top (bat wing vs shark nose) and it can be moved to the new one and bolted on. They also sell that bracket for like $13, it’s a 76000648, which I believe is the same bracket on your current stereo..
The only thing a little different is the new GTS stereo, like on the 2019 and up bikes, you can now add that to your 2016, if you want to spend that kind of money. With the GTS there are some things that H-D says needs to be done if going that route (new usb cable, new Sirius module if applicable), but I used all the stuff I was using with my factory Boom GT 6.5 with my new GTS and it works great.
I did not see where you ever said which stereo you were looking to get, so I tried covering both... sorry if it caused confusion.
(sorry if this is off topic)
Has anyone ever used a different GPS Antenna?
Seem to be lots of clones on Amazon (generic Car GPS antennas) that look identical.
Is there anything special about the HD one? They're 10 bucks on Amazon vs. 55 from HD.

Thanks!
Sorry to bring it back live.
I'm doing the same question now. My GPS antenna died. Need a new one but can't find it at dealer's shop. Is there any problem to use a generic one?
Thank you
Can't find it. Could you, please, point be to the site?
I've found a lot of generic antenna with blue fakra connector that seems to fit but I'm worried it could damage something.
Tried to find hd specs of the antenna with no success
