Thinking of installing a center stand on my 07 FLHTC. Anyone have any pros or cons on the use of one ? Any specific brand to buy or stay away from ? Thanks, Bill from Pittsburgh ...[sm=feedback.gif]
Pick up a copy of the Aug American Bagger. I just read an install on a center stand in it. It might be something to look into. I, like most of us, came from a metric bike which just about all of them had center stands. In my opinion, it is nice to have the option of both. www.wheeldock.com is the article. I can not comment on which system works best, as I don't have a center stand, but I might consider one (but, they are all pricey, IMO).
I checked out that site and the center stand looks great. What I really want is a center stand that lifts the rear tire completely off the ground so you can clean the tire and rim. Wonder if anybody makes one?
I have the Rivco "adjustable" center stand on my UC. It is chrome, heavy duty, easy to install (10 mins) and looks good. I use it all the time for service, detail and when I need extra room in the garage.I have mine set where the rear wheel is off the ground about 3/8 of an inch, just enought so the rear wheel will turn for ease of washing. When I moveto the front there are two options, lift slightly and turn wheel or have someone put a little weight on the passenger seat and the wheel will lift so you can wash the wheel.
Alot of riders on this forum like the Wheeldock because it's a drive off stand...if you get the Rivco adjustable you can have both depending on how high you set the stand. When you order ask for the longer leg bolts / adjustable feet. (if you order from manf., if you don't order from the manufacturer call Rivco and they will send you the legs, they are very user friendly)This will give you more options.
The second myth about Rivco...the instructions say to dismount before putting the bike on the stand, BS, it takes a little practice but in general just put your left foot on the foot pedal just behind the rear left passenger footboard and stand up. The bike will hop right up on the stand.
That looks like the ticket. Thanks guys! I'm going to wash my Ultra todayand I'm already dreading trying to clean the rear wheel. I think this is a must have for me.
EZ Up Wheeldock for me. Very easy to install. When I want to clean the wheels I use my jack to get the bike up. The center stand is especially usefull at the gas station for getting that extra few squeezes of fuel into the tank.
