Ok here is the deal. On 4/11 I was told to buy the saddlebag rail supports from Drag specialties, which I did. Now the problem I am having now is the rubber cushions are missing. so will Silicone work just as well without hurting the paint on the fender, Or will I have to order the cushions as well?
on my previous bike some how I lost one of the rubber inserts. I was cheap and decided to use duck tape and just
built up layers of tape around the bar. figured i would order the rubber piece later.. well later never came and it was that
way for over a year before i wrecked the bike,
A word for the wise NEVER EVER get blue silicone any where close to paint or chrome!!!
I just learned the hard way, that if you get so much as one small drop of blue silicone on the tip of your finger, it will not be long before you have silicone all over your bike, your blue jeans, your T-shirt, your hat, and your home and the ol woman. I think I spent just as much time cleaning up the silicone mess as i did reassembling my bike.
The one thing that I did do good, was to glue a washer to the inside of the rail, and neither the rail or fender touch any where. If I get tired of the gap I will split a piece of vacuum line and slide it up on the rail, where someone could see. I kinda sorta wish that this was a total LOL, but Yeah you know.

Same thing applies to anti-seize compound and roofing tar. 😆
