Default Bike sputtered and died

I’m posting for a friend who has a 2007 CVO Road king on his way to meet me his bike sputtered like it was out of fuel and quit, when I got there he had power to everything except the starter, hit the starter switch and nothing. We pulled every single fuse cleaned the contacts and tried to start after each fuse and nothing, the last thing I did was pull the wire harness to the ECM to get it out of the way then hooked it back up but did not try to start the bike. The tow truck shows up and I decide to try one more time and it starts. We took all the battery cables off and reinstalled them with no luck. Anyone have any similar experience? Thanks.

Did you only take the battery cables off the battery, or did you check the starter connections too?

Does the bike have any type of piggyback tuner?

I have found on a Sportster and on my Dyna, the cables will over time corrode at the lug ends to a point that only one or two strands of the cable are intact under the insulation at the crimped lug. HD is notorious for having cables just long enough to do the job and that puts stress on the cable ends at the lugs, the integrity is compromised and corrosion sets in.

I have seen a buddys bike do this on a 2007 Ultra. Ended up as a bad ground in the main harness. Hopefully, this is simpler to find!
