I just got back from a two day tour of NE Oklahoma with four couples. It's a good thing two of the women had their own bikes because one guy's 2006 Ultra quit charging and died out in the middle of nowhere. He'd had the charging system problem checked at a dealer in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Neither dealer could find a problem and said not to worry about it. My RKC died from an electrical problem two weeks ago and left me high and dry also. What's with these electrical issues on new bikes? Poor quality control? Poor quality parts? Bad design? Bad luck?
As a side note, we were only 30 miles from home when his bike died and it quit right in front of aranch house. We got permission (and damn near dog bit) from the rancher to leave his bike there. Turns out the guy had two Gold Wings and was a rider also. When our friend came back with his trailer to get his bike, it was sitting out in front of the ranchers house with a Honda Gold Wing cover over it. Grrrrrrrrr.

I hope you thanked him and left a bottle of something good.
Don't worry, I am sure that your HD won't catch anything from the GW cover. I would have thanked the guy for going a step above letting you leave it there. Just goes to show you he cared enough to cover it so nothing would happen while you left it at his ranch. Ifmy HD broke downin the Oklahoma area I would be more than happy with all the dust (even in Iowa) blowing someone covered mune for me. So drop down out of the cloud and just thank him for being so thoughful. There is nothing wrong with a cover whatever it says when the bike is left outside! It was TEMPROARY and the guy was trying to help!
Turned out to be a bad voltage regulator. There was a recall on that particular batch and neither of the two dealers who looked at it bothered to check for service bulletins. The end result was a dead bike in the middle of bum f*ck egypt.
