Default Lowering Handlebars

I have a 2016 Road Glide with after market 16" apes. I'm looking to go to something lower, possibly going down to 12". Will I need to get all new cables? I know when you go up in size you have to get new cables, but if I can avoid the cost going the other way that would be nice.

I don’t know for sure, but I bet you will have to at least shorten the brake line. Some have a separate top section so you could leave the bottom half alone.
You might be able to hide the extra clutch line but I’m not sure how they are routed. The wiring shouldn’t be an issue though.

I've seen bikes with cables that just look way to long for them , thinking maybe this is the reasoning for some . I don't see why it wouldn't work if you can reroute them without any kinks , I just don't think it looks right . Your bike should have separated lines , so you can just purchase the top line , but if your bike has ABS , you'll have to take it in to have it bled . Clutch cable can be done anytime , if you choose to do it .

Have a look at Ronnie's and see if your exact bike comes with a break line that can be broken down .

I just put KST Kustoms 12" Renegades on my bike. I was able to use all stock wiring and brake and clutch lines. The wiring was close in my opinion. In your case I don't think your wiring will be a problem. You should have room to hide extra. Your bike has hydraulic clutch so that might be too long. And I think your upper brake line runs under the gas tank like mine to the linked abs unit. I'm not sure about your mechanical experience or confidence level. I'm pretty sure both lines will have to be replaced. The clutch shouldn't be so bad. The brake line runs under the tank so that will be more involved plus the bleeding process. Myself I'd tackle it myself but I have decades of mechanical and electrical experience. Plus youtube has a video for about anything. Good luck.
