Default Outdated Question Regarding 103", SE-255s, and LCD Fuelpak

Hi All,

I've been reading the forums for years and realize I'm potentially opening several Pandora's boxes all at once here so please bear with me lol. I’ll provide some background below and try to make my question as focused as possible at the end of this post.

I have a 2013 Street Glide, with an SE Air Cleaner, Freedom Performance true duals and Reinhart slip-ons, and a V&H LCD Fuelpak. No performance engine work has been done. I don't ride aggressively and only ride one-up. I'd also like to keep my current setup due to budget.

Lately, my buddies and I have been taking longer annual rides into mountainous regions and I’d like more low-end torque in my ride. So, I began looking into a mild torque cam. I recognize that my true duals are not helping my low-end torque but they are staying on the bike as they sound incredible.

I reached out to Vance & Hines and they said they have a handful of maps for mild cams (specifically, the SE-255s) for the LCD Fuelpak. I know that the LCD model is only a fuel tuner and not as capable as the FP3 or other $400 modern tuners (with timing, etc.). But again, I’d like to keep my current setup if possible due to budget. I also like the idea of the SE-255 cams as they align well with my riding style based on what I’ve read and seen on paper.

I’ve read all about Andrews 48hs vs Woods 222s/555s, etc., 255s vs all other SE cams, stage IIIs, IV and everything in between. It’s pretty clear it is easy to fall down a rabbit hole and drain your wallet with additional costs and upgrades quickly in an attempt to chase a few more tq/hp with all of this, and that’s exactly what I’m trying to avoid.

My question is: Has anyone ever run a 103” with true duals and SE-255s on an LCD Fuelpak with the V&H map(s)? If so, what was your experience with the setup and which map that they provided worked best?

Thanks,

No to your question. The question I would be asking is that cam and the V&H tune, coupled with your existing exhaust, going to put the torque curve where you need it based on your riding style?

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate your input and understand what you're asking. To answer your question, based on everything I've researched the new setup should be what I'm looking to gain with my riding style.

However, what I'm really hoping to gain from this is riding experiences (specifically from 103 riders with duals, 255s, and the LCD model) to make sure that the proposed setup with the proper V&H maps will work. Meaning, the maps don't excessively pop/choke tq, or return limited gains given the tech.

I know this is old tech at this point. But I'm on a budget. I just want to ask folks that probably had this setup on their bikes 10 years ago if it worked. There are no forums on this.

Thanks,

V&H has excellent customer support, at least for their tuners (no experience otherwise). If they're willing to say it's good and not trying to immediately upsell you to the FP3, go for it.

When I swapped from true-duals to a Supermeg I got a boost in low/mid range torque, but the most significant improvement is in a much smoother running and rideable engine. The improved feel and ride quality is worth that change alone!

Ya can't hear the exhaust while on the road, unless it is too darned noisy for everyone else. Having 'done' TDs there is no going back for me.

Since the LCD Fuelpak is an air/fuel tuner only, I can't imagine, regardless of which air/fuel map V&H provides after you install the SE-255, you're going to be happy with how your bike performs. I hope I'm wrong, but here's no way I would install a cam without a proper tuner and, to be honest, the FP3 wouldn't be my first choice.

You will need a full featured tuning device. Even the FP3 didnt cut it for my cam change. Did it work, sure. Was it all it could be, no.

Im close. Bought an 08 cvo road king that had slip ons and a high fliw intake, 255s are stock. I could tell it wasnt tuned. At least not very well. I put one if those LCD fuel paks on it...cheap right? After 2 weeks of messing with it and getting tweaks from v&h i gave up. For whatever reason they wont tell you what each mode controls so making minor tweaks is like playing baseball in the dark. Could never get it right...it was great down low but bad up top or vice versa. Went to the dyno guy and ended up getting a rinehart true dual system, 58mm throttle body and a great tune. The tune was worth every penny. No matter what you do dont cheap out on the tune.

Yes, this has been my experience as well. Thanks for the input. And your right, they did not try to upsell me which was nice. Though at this point they still haven't provided the 225 map(s). Maybe they caught wind of this thread? Lol
